Thank you all for your replies...giving me food for thought!
I thought I would start a new topic! I am expanding my collection of flute music CDs. I find it really helps me to 'tune my ear' by listening to a variety of different flautists and different genres and I enjoy it. Which CDs would you recommend me to add to my collection, ie which are your favourite flute recordings or flute solos etc that may be part of a larger composition?

Interesting angles on the longer foot joint!

I have a B foot simply because my flute came with one. As I like the sound of my flute, and that may be partly due to the longer tube so to speak, I’m not likely to change it, even though I have a hard enough time making a C let alone a B! But I also think the extra mechanism on that side of the flute helps me to hold the whole thing better. With my old Jupiter which had a C foot I found the flute turning in quite easily. That doesn’t happen with the B foot and maybe the extra weight from the longer mechanism helps to balance the weight of the flute a bit...if that makes sense.

I've owned several B foot flutes but being small I've come to the conclusion that I'm much more comfortable with C foot flutes. B flutes are heavy! I don't miss the B note (you can always opt out of playing B - and even if you have a B it can be difficult to sound)
If you are only considering a B foot for enhancing tone - there are different ways of enhancing tone eg changing your crown, Lefreque sound bridge etc.
Consider a B foot if you have strong arms, a super strong right little finger and know that you're going to play lots of pieces with a low B and can already sound a very solid low C! (from an anti-B foot campaigner!)

No, you can't play a B with a C-foot. But the tone of the whole flute can be changed quite significantly by changing the foot joint, surprisingly!

Next series of questions! Why would a C foot be preferable to a B foot? Can one still play low B on a C foot?

Hi Lynn, I don't think you'll get many replies - yet! No-one else has signed up to the forum yet. Anyway do ask Jools in person or text or whatever, she has a B foot. I was thinking she might prefer a C-foot.... Janna x

Has anyone had experience of attaching a B foot to the flute? Does it enhance the tone of the flute? Any thoughts?
